From April 17 to 24, the LGBTQIA+ film festival Sunny Bunny will take place at the Zhovten Cinema in Kyiv. The program includes 12 full-length feature films. As in previous years, military personnel will have free access to all screenings with priority seating.
The festival will open with the German drama Under State Protection (dir. Faraz Shariat), which has already won the Audience Award at the Berlin International Film Festival. The film is expected to be released in Ukraine shortly after the festival.
Other films in the lineup include:
Narciso (dir. Marcelo Martinessi): a story about the struggle for freedom in 1950s Paraguay. The director is already known to Ukrainian audiences as a 2018 festival laureate.
The Education of Jane Cumming: a historical drama set in 19th-century Edinburgh, focusing on the trial of schoolteachers accused of lesbian relationships.
The Youngest (dir. Hafsia Herzi): a Queer Palm winner at Cannes Film Festival, exploring the conflict between religious identity and sexuality.
Julian: a romantic road movie about a couple who decide to get married in every country where same-sex marriage is legal.
In addition to screenings, the festival will host a short film pitching session. The winner will receive UAH 100,000 to produce their project.
