The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association has updated its participation rules. From now on, only individuals assigned female at birth will be eligible to compete in women’s tournaments. The decision is based on the association’s conclusion that snooker is an “activity affected by sex.”
As a result, women’s tournaments are now closed to transgender women. Participation is limited to biological women and transgender men who are not undergoing hormone replacement therapy. Open and mixed tournaments will remain available to all players, regardless of gender identity or biological sex.
Earlier, the International Olympic Committee also announced restrictions on the participation of transgender women in women’s categories, starting from the 2028 Olympic Games.
