According to Bloomberg, the European Union has launched an investigation into several pornographic platforms, including Pornhub and Stripchat. The European Commission concluded that the age verification systems implemented on these sites do not provide adequate protection for minors. If violations are confirmed, the companies could face fines of up to 6% of their annual global turnover.
The investigation also targets Snapchat. EU authorities are assessing the platform’s effectiveness in verifying users’ ages, as well as its ability to prevent grooming and the distribution of drugs through the app.
These actions are part of the EU’s broader strategy to strengthen online safety and protect young people in the digital environment.
Meanwhile, in the United States, legal proceedings are ongoing, with plaintiffs already winning cases against Meta and Alphabet over addiction and mental health harm linked to their platforms.
