Streaming platform Netflix has announced a new series focused on the relationship and artistic journey of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. The project will be an adaptation of Rien n’est noir by Claire Berest, exploring the artists’ personal lives through the lens of the social and political context of their time.
The creative team aims to move beyond familiar myths surrounding Kahlo. According to Netflix Mexico’s vice president Carolina Leconte, the ambition of the series is to portray “the real Frida” — a woman who helped place Mexico on the global cultural map. The script for the drama will be written by María Renée Prudencio.
The project is currently in development. The official title and release date will be announced at a later stage.
