Instagram removed a post by Erin O’Connor twice, featuring nude photos taken during her eighth month of pregnancy. The images were originally shared to mark Mother’s Day.
The platform justified the removal by citing violations of its nudity policies. After media coverage, Meta briefly restored the post, only to remove it again despite the model’s appeal. O’Connor described the situation as an example of double standards, noting that social media platforms frequently hypersexualize women’s bodies while labeling images of pregnancy as “inappropriate content.”
The model called on Meta to introduce more context-sensitive moderation policies that take into account motherhood, childbirth, and body positivity. Meta representatives responded that automated systems restrict images of female breasts to prevent the spread of sexual content, although exceptions exist for artistic and educational purposes.
