A February report by the United Nations confirmed four cases of sexual violence and sexual exploitation committed by personnel of the Kenya-led Multinational Security Support mission, which was deployed to protect the population of Haiti from armed gangs. The crimes were committed during 2025.
Three of the four victims were children who were raped, including a 12-year-old. The fourth victim was an adult. Military and police personnel affiliated with the mission — which is financially supported by the United States — are reported to be involved.
The UN has referred the case to the leadership of the mission and its successor, the Anti-Gang Task Force, as the mission itself is not directly under UN command. UN expert William O’Neill described the cases as “unacceptable” and called for a transparent and independent judicial process. The U.S. State Department has also urged Kenya to ensure those responsible are held accountable without delay.
It is worth noting that similar cases of sexual violence involving peacekeepers were documented in Haiti in 2010.
